CCAOI and Facebook tie a knot for Bharat's fabric-"Togetherness through Gyan"
India without Bharat is a body without soul and the two most important ingredients of our India are the “Joint family system” and the extended family of “ Gurukul”. Internet through Social Networking site and e-Education can weave the vanished knots of the same fabric intensely for our vision of “Bharat-Nirman”. The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil’s visionary speech on 26th Feb 2010, stating that the 250,000 broadband connection in rural India would facilitate every Indian to be empowered, would help to bring the connectivity to rural India, however the entire exercise can be successful only when each and every citizen of the country is educated on Internet . CCAOI, the association representing the ecosystem of internet-ISP, VAS providers, eGovernance, Security, Advertising, education, tele-medicine etc., had initiated and is successfully conducting an ambitious project having the potential to shape the future of India as dreamt by our visionaries - Free Internet Learning program for all, in their own native language and with an access nearest to them, 180,000 Cybercafés spread across the country.

The spread of gyan, supported by NIXI, already having covered more than 5000 households is now supported by world’s largest social networking site - FACEBOOK who has joined hands with the association to bring Bharat together, uniting and enlightening every Indian through education. The CCAOI Facebook program will have a seminal impact on Indian society. The project has aimed at spreading internet education amongst thousands of Indians through the cyber cafés spread across the country. Imparting the knowledge of internet through vernacular language is perhaps the greatest advantage of the program. Moreover such an initiative would help the Cybercafés add an additional footfall to the Cafes and earn an additional revenue. Commenting on this momentous programme, Amrita Choudhury, Director CCAOI says, “Such initiatives have the potential to mobilize the masses of the country, and this programme will definitely be a landmark in the spread of internet education, and joining back the Indian society”

Today, China boast of its largest number of Internet users. It has surpassed countries like the USA, and UK. The secret of its phenomenal success in China is the mass penetration of internet education in Chinese Mandarin, the language of the populace. No doubt, the step taken by CCAOI and Facebook in India will have identical benefit and help India inch closer to its neighbour in terms of Internet users. The giant step will undoubtedly become a milestone in its quest to become a super power.

During the last 5 years, the country recorded a 45-fold increase in terms of broadband subscribers. Still the numbers are few compared to China. One big challenge in the implementation of the project is that there is a huge gap between Urban and Rural India. Broadband’s quarterly growth in the urban areas is around 8.46% but the percentage is quite negligible in rural areas. Whereas the percentage of broadband subscribers in urban areas is around 95%, it is only 5% in the rural areas. The CCAOI and Facebook project is expected to bring about a revolutionary change in the country, in so far as bridging the digital divide is concerned. “The people who live in the rural area form the majority of the population of our country. By imparting Free internet education to them CCAOI is going to educate the masses of India. Empowered by the association of Facebook, it is undoubtedly going to be the most significant social networking for a cause” says Akashdeep Singh, Secretary CCAOI.
