CCAOI successful in ensuring RBI accords Cybercafes the Status of BC
We are glad to inform that , after a long drawn battle, Cybercafé Association of India (CCAOI) has ultimately been able to ensure that RBI accords Cybercafé the status of Business Correspondents (BC).Now any individual Cyber Cafes has become eligible to be appointed as BCs by banks.

Reserve Bank of India Working Group observes that banks would need to accept the BC model as it is crucial for achieving the goals of financial inclusion. The traditional ‘brick and mortar’ branches can reach the interior areas of our country only up to a certain extent. This model presents the banks with a workable option to provide banking services in inaccessible areas in a cost-effective manner. RBI has also noted that BC’s should be used not only for opening and servicing no-frill accounts, but also for the full range of financial activities. BC’s could be the ideal medium for the banks to handle the huge volumes of low value transactions. The communication from RBI has been pasted below.

CCAOI, as an association, which represents the entire ecosystem of Internet, is constantly striving to improve the ecosystem and this is a significant step in our journey to empower the Cybercafés of the country which in turn will contribute significantly in creating a strong financial foundation of our country at the micro levels.

The CCAOI platform is also facilitating services for the community like Free Legal Support, Free vernacular software in 22 Indian languages, providing Free Internet Literacy Course in major Regional languages thereby promoting internet in the language of choice of the common man, promoting Safe and Secure Internet etc. To know more about our other initiatives do visit www.ccaoi.in.
